“Empowering Physicians Dallas 2022” was an evening of celebration and dedication to our investors and sponsors who share those principles of empowering themselves and others in and out of medicine. As a physician-owned company, we understand financial empowerment is only a steppingstone, and we are proud to bring constructive dialogue and inspiring narratives from all walks of the medical journey.

The physician panelists shared their own eclectic paths from recently publishing a book, to creating a podcast, to becoming a certified sommelier – putting a spin on what it means to be “lifelong learners”. With diverse clinical backgrounds and distinctive professional pursuits both in and outside of medicine, the thought-provoking discussion was the focal point of the evening, showcasing the power of physicians coming together to collaborate and learn.

Dr. Clay Cockerell is a board-certified dermatologist and the past president of the American Academy of Dermatology. He serves as the founder & medical director of Cockerell Dermatopathology in Dallas, TX, one of the nation’s most respected dermatolopathology practices. Dr. Cockerell is the personification of a life-long learner, as we learned of his pursuits in obtaining a JD and MBA, which he self-started in the context of his growing medical practice and in starting his own wine under the label Coquerel Family Wine Estates. He stressed the importance of empowering physicians to remain curious and inspired us to sharpen our intellect in areas outside of medicine.

Dr. Latifat Akintade is a board-certified gastroenterologist, and one of Sacramento’s top docs, with a focus on inflammatory bowel diseases. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Akintade is the CEO and founder of MoneyFitMD, a coaching and educational platform for women physicians who want to take control of their finances so they can be empowered to live life and practice medicine on their own terms. She believes that physicians that are financially liberated will be key players in the transformation of our health care system. Dr. Akintade challenged our audience through self-reflection and self-assessment to help us recognize that we are all capable of creating wealth from the inside out.

Dr. Nimesh Patel is a board-certified neurosurgeon serving the Dallas metroplex for over two decades. His strong desire to continue to grow and serve led him to pursue an MBA, which has positively impacted his professional career as Section Chief of Neurosurgery for the Methodist Dallas Medical Center and Executive Medical Director of Methodist Health System in Dallas. He is the author of the soon to be released book, “Beyond a White Coat: What I Wish I Knew As A Young Doctor.” Dr. Patel shared his wisdom through his experiences as a physician executive and encouraged individual physicians to utilize their unique strengths and skillsets in order to empower themselves and colleagues in the continuously changing landscape of medicine.
